Simulated Soil Platform Development

Through a SLAC funded laboratory directed research and development (LDRD) proposal, we will be using additive manufacturing techniques to develop 3D printed simulate soil platforms. The platforms will be compatible with plant and microbial growth, and scalable to host larger plants (such as rice) and directly measurable on several SSRL XRF imaging beamlines for dynamic nutrient studies. We have a plant growth chamber to maintain environmental conditions for plant growth in the platforms.

This project is in collaboration with Stanford AMPF and we are currently seeking a postdoc to work on the development of the platform. Please reach out if you are interested in the position!
